You can't visit Chicago without eating local! We arrived in Chicago Friday morning facing a 10 hour layover before boarding Royal Jordanian Airways to Amman, so we caught the L train in to town and dove in to some authentic Chicago cuisine: stuffed pizza! Yum! After lunch we walked downtown to the Art Museum, taking in local scultpures along the way. It was hot, and kids of all ages enjoyed the sculpture that spits water per

iodically. I especially liked the giant mirrored jellybean that distorts your image in strange a

nd unusual ways as you walk under it! At the art museum we spent several hours soaking up Degas, Matisse, Monet to name just a few. The French impressionists exhibit was not complete, since they are in the process of renovating the museum, but we still got to see many of my favorites. I particularly like this one, though my photo doesn't do it justice. You could feel the sandy beach between your toes and smell the salt water as you stood looking at it. I'm no art critic, but certain pieces of art have the ability to just pull me in, and this one certainly did. We all boarded the plane to Amman, but since I was booked separately, I sat closer to the front from the rest of the group. My traveling

companion was a delightful US citizen who was traveling home to his country of birth, Palestine. The flight was less than restful, due to upset babies throughout the cabin, but we both managed to catch a few winks. Upon landing we were met by a man who assisted us through the visa process, which went very smoothly indeed. After collecting all the baggage, we were off to the van and our new home away from home. King's Academy, named after the King of Jordan (King Abdullah II), is a beautiful private boarding school located south of the capital city of Amman. About ten minutes from Madaba, it's a lovely green oasis out in the middle of the desert and sheep herds. We had a lovely dinner in Madaba, with several local dishes, all delicious. The main consisted of paper thin bread with a savory meat and onion filling. Fantastic! Oh, boy, I can see I'm going to need to keep up with the running!
